Welcome to Beckfoot Hazelbeck Sixth Form. When you start in our Sixth Form, we want our students to take more responsibility for themselves. We believe that student voice is key to this, and we support our students to communicate what they want and need, both now and in their adult life once they leave us.

Sixth Form Curriculum

Our rich curriculum gives students the opportunity to practice the skills they’ve learned throughout their time at Beckfoot Hazelbeck and use them in the wider community and their real life experiences, this will prepare them for adulthood and life after school.

We deliver the curriculum by mixing groups of learners so that they engage with activities that they’re really interested in, such as different types of exercise – competitive, stamina, yoga or swimming, or different types of creative arts or activities in the community.

Health and Wellbeing

We are committed to supporting our students health and wellbeing, encouraging independence in the following key areas so that students can enter adulthood with dignity, wherever and with whomever they choose to live.

  • Preparation for employment: We do work experience in and out of school to develop life and employment skills. We define employment has how students will spend their time when they leave school, as we prepare you embrace new experiences, show resilience in their commitments, and do their best in all future endeavors.
  • Friendships and relationships: We encourage diversity of friendships and relationships and support students in navigating how to be a good friend and how to positively contribute to their community.
  • Key skills: We acknowledge the importance of students practicing the core skills of English, numeracy and IT to access life after school, and as such we vary our days with intentional teaching time as well as real life experiences.

Supporting students to their next destination

Our experienced staff are dedicated to supporting students and their families through the transition from Sixth Form to their next destination.

A third of our leavers go to college, where they study entry level or level 1 qualifications in a range of vocational areas, or focus on independent living. Others access adult day centres such as Skills Kitchen, Mind the Map and Big Soup, who offer life skills and creative activities. Others will use their personal allowance to access a variety of community activities. Many of our leavers do a combination of these activities throughout the week.

You can find out more about the Bradford Local Offer for adults with disabilities here.

All students will leave with a portfolio of unit awards which demonstrate their skills in a wide range of activities. Those who can, will achieve entry level or level 1 in nationally recognised English and Maths functional qualifications. There is also an opportunity to achieve entry level qualifications in preparing for adulthood skills. Students have also achieved level 1 in Sports Leaders. There is an opportunity to complete Duke of Edinburgh too.
